October 2011 – A friend of mine from NSW, Matt is becoming by default, a talented flightgear collector /enthusiast. He also has a range of other hobbies which connect to restoring and heritage.
A rare skill Matt has gained is the ability to do great hand painted artwork on to leather jackets i have found. Matt has been interested for a while in trying to recreate a USAAF leather A-2 jacket with WW2 artwork.
He started with a photo and transferred the likeness of the art, to his jacket by careful painting over a few weeks.
THE ARTWORK – P47 THUNDERBOLT NOSE COWL
Here we see the original WW2 nose art as seen on Capt. Praeger Neyland, Kennedy, TX. 61st Fighter Squadron. P-47D 42-75508.HV-B_ “Pistol Packin’ Mama”.
Here we see the finished article after Matt and his child did some careful painting.
THE FINISHED PAINTED A-2 JACKET
I am looking at hiring Matt to do some jacket artwork for me in the future. Its a great start for Matt, you learn through trial and error how to paint. I am quite a good artist myself but have yet to try a jacket and painting combinations.
